Tasmania (Tasmanian) East Coast

East Coast Holidays

The East Coast of Tasmania is a delightful place to visit on your Tasmanian holiday. Here you will find a succession of picturesque bays, headlands, beaches and coastal fishing villages that provide you with many wonderful holiday opportunities. One of Tasmania’s premier tourist attractions lies on the East Coast. At Eaglehawk Neck you can visit Port Arthur and some of the other amazing coastal landforms. Tasman Arch, the Devils Blowhole, and the tessellated pavement are all located close to the old convict ruins. This was one of Australia’s first settlements and was mostly inhabited by those poor souls who were sent from England as convicts together with their guards and these two groups formed the first settlement in the area and became the first European Australians. The hardships they endured are on display for all to see and it was a pitiful existence that they were forced to endure.

East Coast travel

As you travel north you can visit some places with a happier history. The East Coast is a land of plenty with quaint fishing villages and rich rural countryside and some absolutly superb holiday accommodation and resorts. You must visit the beautiful Wineglass Bay region and call into the town of Bicheno. Hang the expense and try the local crayfish. It is the best in the world. Match it with one of Tasmania’s cold climate wines and man; it doesn’t get any better than this! A little further north is Coles Bay. This is a great place for a fishing trip or to try a day tour to the Maria Island National Park. Here you will find a region full of natural beauty as well as being able to meet the local wildlife. Further to the north is the town of St Helen's and there are many detours you can take on the way to visit rainforest's, waterfalls, lakes and rivers. In Tasmania, never let your fishing gear get too far away as the opportunities are endless.
