About this tour

Spend two days exploring Tasmania's capital and its surrounding natural treasures. This tour takes you from Hobart's streetscape and colonial villages to the wildlife sanctuaries and coastal drama of Bruny Island. You'll climb Mt Wellington for panoramic views, wander Richmond's convict-era architecture, encounter native animals at Bonorong, and taste award-winning local produce. Designed to pack the essentials without exhaustion, it's ideal if you're visiting Hobart briefly and want genuine variety—culture, history, nature, and food all woven together.

Highlights

  • Mt Wellington summit views spanning the Derwent Valley
  • Kangaroos, devils, wombats, koalas at Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary
  • Richmond's 1820s sandstone buildings and convict heritage
  • Bruny Island's rugged coastline and Cape Bruny Lighthouse
  • Salamanca Market on Saturday (produce, crafts, local makers)
  • Regional food tastings and local producer stops
  • Air-conditioned minibus with hotel pickups included

What to expect

Day one covers Hobart's essentials. Your guide will show you the city's character, then drive you up Mt Wellington (or a substitute peak if weather closes it in) for unobstructed vistas across greater Hobart. You'll visit Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary to encounter Tasmanian devils and other native fauna up close, then head to Richmond, a small colonial village where sandstone buildings and gardens reveal the region's convict-era roots. Day two is devoted to Bruny Island. The journey includes coastal exploration, a visit to Cape Bruny Lighthouse, and stops at local food producers—cheese, wines, or other artisan goods—where you can taste what the region makes. The pace is measured; transport is by comfortable minibus.

Good to know

Lunch and drinks aren't included—bring a budget for meals. National Parks Pass and Bonorong entry are covered. Mt Wellington may substitute for Mt Nelson or Rosny Lookout in poor weather. Children from age 4 onwards are welcome if supervised by an adult. The tour runs most weather conditions, so pack layers and waterproofs.
